I had been buying chemicals from my local supply place (mom & Pop) for several years. They would not take AMEX so one day I decided to switch to Leslies.

it was closer to my house and the prices were similar but a little higher. why not! 2 purchases into the summer I started noticing I couldn't keep chlorine levels up. I had 5-6 tabs going at a time, dumping granular in 3 times a week, It's summer, right!!

my pool is warmer. it's been dry! maybe there is just more opportunity for the algie to find a place to grow and sun to kill the chlorine. With the mom & pop my water was in the 1000-**** tds range and its 10 years old.

my conditioner levels were good and my phosphates always remained steady as long as I back flushed and added DE every 2-3 weeks. your filter is the heart of you pool! I have 3 kids that swim non-stop and have many friends over all the time. there are nights during the summer you can't tell how many kids are in the pool.

it looks like a scene from caddy shack! I Have not changed the water since we purchased the house in 2005. I could predictably add, without testing (but always do) 1/2 gal to 3/4 gallon liquid acid per week to stay 7.3-7.6 ph. old plaster pool, its always giving up basic material and city water added due to evap.

is typically a little basic in our area. With the mom & pop chems, I could plan on shocking and adding yellow treat once a month then shocking again to kill the bac-t and algie. The crap would fall out and I could vac. up everything and back-flush.

No prob. I got this!! after the switch....my pool becomes more basic 7.0-7.3. I'm adding acalinity-up.

i'm adding phosphate killer...i'm trying every type of yellow algie killer they offer...week after week after week I have no chlorine, i'm growing algie like I want to make biodiesel and my tds goes from 1500 to 4000. and what does leslies tell me....you need to change you water!!!! NO...I need to purchase chemicals that don't change my pool chemistry, don't have additional "junk" in them that produce the food for the bac-t and algie and do what you paid for. I open a bag of shock from mom & pop and smell chlorine (strong) I open one from leslies and I could feed it to my dog...

do the test side by side.. you will understand what i'm saying. I spent more $ on additional chemicals this summer than you can even imaging. Leslies is why the average person will struggle to do their own pool verses hiring a pool guy to do it.

I know. I went through this before. This is my third pool and the first time this happened I gave up. And when I told the pool guy I hired that I had been using leslies he said....

well I don't for a reason!

If you think I'm wrong ask your pool guy. gust saying!!!!
